Advocate for Tentacles
Attended an M-team meeting for #4 son today. Huge crowd of people. At the end of the meeting, the concept of cell phones arose and there was immediately a cry for everything electronic to be banned. I jumped in with a vision of how things could be if we incorporated technology into our classrooms rather than panicking and chopping off their tentacles (Thanks, David Warlick). I was able to talk about the travesty of our students doing the majority of their learning after school hours without guidance from librarians and teachers. Many left with a new appreciation for the “what could be’s.” Even hubby dear said it was interesting. Small steps that everyone needs to be taking. Changes in attitude will happen little by little. Positive ideas need to be shared constantly to accumulate. Negatives are flashy. We need to be quietly working now to save the future of our learners and their rights to quality education.
