Free-thinking, persistent and passionate school librarian would be a good opening description. I am a Democrat and very active in seeking protection of the rights of all whether they know how important it is or not. This includes their right to having access to good school libraries. I began working with legislators because I saw a need in Tennessee for more vocal school library supporters. Once I took the first step, I moved on to chairing the Tennessee Association of School Librarians legislative committee, serving on the Tennessee Library Association Legislative Committee, and co-chairing the Tennessee delegation to National Library Legislative Day. I have just completed a 2 year term as the chair of AASL's legislation committee andwas the chair of the AASL Affiliate Assembly. All postings on this Deep Thinking blog are entirely my own opinion and do not represent any other organization or person. I am a mother of 4 boys- indicated on my blog by number order. #1 and #3 are biologically my sons. #2 and #4 are my chosen stepsons. #1 and #2 are 17 years old. #3 and #4 are 15 years old. Yes, that makes 4 teenage boy appetites in our house. As I serve on committees for TASL and AASL and attend conferences, the boys have learned to cook. Hubby dear is the one who suffers until I return. Professionally I teach full-time as a school library information specialist in Nashville, Tennessee. I have lived and taught in Iowa, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Taiwan, and Germany. I have been tenured 3 times. I have also taught adults English and parenting skills. I enjoyed the interaction of working in retail with the public and being able to use humor and sincerity to help others in a different capacity - plus I didn't take home any homework from retail. I am an independent beauty consultant for the #1 best-selling company in the area of skin care and color cosmetics (and since I just began in April, I do not have that pretty car yet). I may take the time to create a blog resume sometime, but in the meantime, I will simply continue sharing random thoughts as I contemplate the universe and the role of school librarians in it.
